Cherry bark tea canister with petals motif.
The decoration inlaid in the cherry bark of this tea box represents cherry blossom petals carried away by the wind. An omnipresent scene in Japanese aesthetics reminding us of the fragility and natural and ephemeral beauty.
Made with the "Kabazaiku" technique, the exterior and interior of this box as well as the back of the lid are covered with a very fine cherry bark. This bark processing technique of Denshiro dates back to 1851, and has been passed down through six generations. The bark of the wild cherry tree is harvested in such a way as to allow it to regenerate without interfering with the growth of the trees.
