The decoration inlaid in the cherry bark of this tea box represents cherry blossom petals blown away by the wind. An omnipresent scene in Japanese aesthetics reminiscent of fragility and natural, ephemeral beauty.
Made with the "Kabazaiku" technique, the outside as well as the inside of this box and the back of the lid are covered with a very fine cherry tree bark. This bark working technique of the Denshiro house dates back to 1851, and has been passed down over six generations. The wild cherry bark is harvested in such a way as to allow its regeneration so as not to impede the growth of the trees.
