The outside of this tea box uses a marbled bark that expresses the natural bark of wild cherry as it is. To the touch you can feel the texture of the bark as on the trunk of the tree in its natural habitat. The slightly grey-white colour is reminiscent of the frost of the last winter mornings. In addition, the wood inlay with its windblown cherry and flower petal patterns expresses the fragility and ephemeral beauty, notions so present in Japanese thought.
It is a precious object, of a raw nature like this bark, and yet refined with these delicate cherry blossoms, which will enrich the tasting of your favourite teas.
Denshiro's "Kabazaiku" bark working technique dates back to 1851, and has been passed down over six generations. The bark of wild cherry trees is harvested in such a way as to allow its regeneration so as not to interfere with the growth of the trees.
