Description
An elegant and decorative tea canister in frosted cherry bark with mother-of-pearl petal motifs.
The decoration inlaid in the cherry bark of this tea canister depicts cherry blossom petals carried away by the wind. This is an omnipresent scene in Japanese aesthetics, a reminder of fragility and natural, ephemeral beauty.
Made using the 'Kabazaiku' technique, the outside and inside of this box, as well as the back of the lid, are covered in the finest raw cherry bark. Denshiro's bark-working technique dates back to 1851, and has been passed down through six generations. The wild cherry bark is harvested in such a way as to allow it to regenerate, so as not to hinder the growth of the trees.
